Quaaludes, also known as methaqualone, were once used as a prescription sedative and hypnotic medication. They were commonly prescribed to help with anxiety and insomnia. However, due to their high potential for abuse and addictive nature, quaaludes were classified as a Schedule I controlled substance and are currently illegal in most countries, including the United States. As a result, they are no longer used as a medicine.
